Measuring Ford F-150 the correct length across years

In short, your Ford F-150’s length may vary from around 209 inches to 250 inches. This number depends on the truck configurations, and here we tell you all the details. Any car’s length is measured as the distance between the two bumpers: the front and the rear ones. Each bumper of the Ford F-150 belongs to a separate part of the pickup: a cab and cargo bed. Each section (both the cab and bed) has three versions, and the total number of combinations is equal to six.

Cab Length

Ford F-150 has three types of cabs: regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew. The regular cab has only a front-seats row and can seat a maximum of three people. The other two Super cabs boast two rows of seats and can easily seat five or six people. The cab’s length is the distance from the front bumper to the cab back, and the regular model is 121.4 inches long. 144.0 inches belong to the SuperCab, while the SuperCrew is 155.8 inches long.

Bed Length

The F-150 has three pickup bed modifications that differ with its length and volume. Ford names them Stylesides. The shortest one is 5.5 feet long, the next one is 6.5 feet, and the largest is 8.0 feet long. These cargo boxes have inside lengths (measured at the floor) of 67.1, 78.9, and 97.6 inches respectively. Though the width between the wheelhouses (51.1 inches) and inside height (21.4 inches) are the same, the cargo boxes’ volumes rise proportionally: 52.8 cu.ft., 62.3 cu.ft., and 77.4 cu.ft.

Total Length

The overall length of the Ford F-150 varies significantly: from 209.1 inches to 250.3 inches. The shortest truck is the one with the regular cab and f 6.5-feet Styleside, and the longest is SuperCab with an 8.0-feet bed. The regular cab with an 8.0-feet cargo bed is 227.7 inches long, the SuperCab with the medium bed combination has 231.7 inches, while SuperCrew has the same 231.7 inches with the shortest cargo section and 243.5 inches with the medium one. Interestingly, there is no F-150 model that combines either the longest cab with the longest bed or the shortest cab with the shortest bed.

Wheelbase and Overhang

The total length of your Ford F-150 may also be split into three parts: front overhang, wheelbase, and rear overhang. The front overhang (37.6 inches) and the rear overhang (48.6 inches) are the same for all modifications; the wheelbase differs. The wheelbase is the distance between the front and rear wheels, while the wheel centers are taken as the starting points for measurements. The Ford’s F-150 regular cab has a wheelbase of 122.8 and 141.5 inches. SuperCab models has the numbers of 145.4 and 164.1 inches, and SuperCrew trucks have 145.4 and 157.2 inches between the wheels.

REMEMBER

A good rule of thumb for how much distance you should keep in front of your Ford F-150 is at least 1 second for each 10 feet of vehicle length at speeds below 40 mph.
